Charisma (Chr) is an attribute score for player characters.

The attributes are:

Overview[]

The designated party leader's Chr determines the buying and selling prices of items. No other skills or attributes per se are relevant to the calculation— only the items themselves and the size/population of the place where the bartering is taking place.

Darklands is loaded with cutscene-driven situations that involve influencing other people, and Chr applies to the vast majority of them. Chr and Per are the key attributes for interactions, but especially Chr.

Like other attributes, a character's Chr score does not change under normal circumstances. Supernatural curses and traps can inflict permanent damage to Chr. There is no way to earn permanent increases to Chr.

Recommendations[]

The party member designated to hold the party's purse and handle other human interactions needs a high Chr score. The party's alchemist needs good Chr, too, because of the way Alchemists in cities work. However, his specialty and the needs of combat mean his attribute point spread is probably too thin to consider maxing-out Chr.

Saints[]

This attribute will take temporary damage after stacking saintly blessings that affect it (which is ineffective anyway), but it will recover in the weeks that follow.

During the character creation process, Chr will eventually decline as the character gets old, but only well past their prime fighting years.

Prices of Items[]

The table below lists expected prices for 25q goods for a party leader with 40 Chr.

The "Rarity" values, listed below, of 6 or more are considered rare goods. It is most favorable to buy common and sell rare goods in Köln, the largest city, or in the other big locations: Lübeck, Hamburg, Danzig, Stassburg, Nürnberg, or Ulm.

Conversely, it is best to buy rare and sell common goods in the tiniest sites available: hamlets or, even better, the traveling merchant caravans randomly encountered overland.

Additional Notes[]

  • With Chr of about 85 or more, the party can sell items for more than their buying price at a vendor (certainly an unintended convergence of the price curves). This is possible with a prayer to St. Denis using characters with leadership backgrounds.
